This program served as the base for facilitating, for sharing resources and giving support to grass-root community. To strengthen the unity and ecumenical spirit among the MCC member churches is the main objective of this program. The following programs were carried out in the year of 2010, in collaboration with churches and community. The program is intended to learn the concepts, principles, approaches, strategies, methods and process of development with target grass-root community member. It is also to help and enhance the community with participation, facilitating skills and formation of self-help group. Development Management training was set up with an objective to provide management skills, respond creatively and actively to various emerging issues, and help them to arrive at their own action perspective through people based activities. Furthermore, the understanding and skills of Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management were provided to response to disaster. Not only the existing current situations related to socio-economy but also internal migrant situations were learned and discussed among the Church leaders. The program held awareness training on environmental care. Resource papers and booklets related to the community development were published with limited circulation among MCC member churches. When the disaster had occurred, MCC supported an emergency assistance to the affected areas. Due to lack of funds the program could not meet all the needs but was able to support some follow-up emergency needs with the donations. A seminar was conducted to bring awareness on the seriousness of the migrant problems in the city and the deep need of the church to respond to these issues through networking with each other. Awareness on migrant problems was also conducted for the rural community. For those who intend to migrate, necessity skills were trained. Legal assistance was provided for the people who faced with land and trafficking issues. The objective of this activity is to increase and promote grass-root community to be initiative in development efforts and activities. The sustainable implementations were funded; agriculture, raising animal and traditional products, etc... This project focused on the poorest group of people from the grass-root level. DIAKONIA of Sweden funded the safe water supply and sanitary project. With their funds, 69 local water projects were being implemented in various places during 2009-2010.There are changes among the community which relate to service and development. Concerning with the capacity building, the trainees now obtain not only knowledge but also skills on how to react and respond accordingly to the needs of the situation. They are trying to create learning communities to share what they have learnt for they could not keep only for themselves. Awareness rising become effective among them and follow up activities are carried out. More people are participating in the implementation of the local projects which benefit for them. Amazingly, some community has changed their mind from dependency to self-reliance. At the water project areas, the health condition is better than before. One thousand plants were being planted to care for environment. The need for development is huge in the country especially in the Christian community. It has to assist the people in need and communities in distress so that they can respond creatively and effectively to various issues affecting them.Information Edit by Oliva (MCC) |
