In the year of 2010, the following programs are carried out by the Youth Work as directives given by the Youth Work Committee Members, CentralCommittee and the General Secretary of MCC. The main objective of the Youth Work is to promote the ecumenical spirit and youth action. 1. MatuP Regional Council Youth Network Building Seminar The objective of the seminar is to build regional network for the emergence of new ecumenical agenda at the regional and grass-root levels. Thus, this seminar was specifically chose to held at Matup, Chan State. With the participations of 97 Mara people plut with chins who belong to chin ethnic group, group presentations and competition on songs, dramas, talent shows and games were carried out during the seminar. 2. National Ecumenical Youth Leadership Training Course (15) The objective of this course is to study on development and globalization, their effects and impact on young people. It targets to enable ecumenical parternaiship and sharing efforts among the participating students and youth movements in Myanmar. Basing on the theme “Prophetic Role for Ecumenical Solidarity,” the inputs on ecumenical youth leader, current issues, ecumenical movement, capacity building, inter faith dialogue, ecology and laws were offered to (35) Youth from (10) Denomination and (5) Regional Council Youth. At the end of the course, the Myanmar Ecumenical Youth Leaders partook the “Ecumenical Communion” together in unity. |

Myanmar Council of Churches will hold the 83rd Biennial General Meeting in Pyin Oo Lwin (May Myo) on May 12-16, 2010. BGM is the largest governing body of the Myanmar Council of Churches. The meeting will be attended by representatives from 14 member denominations, 11 cooperating bodies and non voting special invitees and observers from the non member Churches like Catholic Bishops Conference of Myanmar, Seven day Adventist and MCMC etc. The meeting will confirm the resolutions of the Central committee for the coming years. Reports of programmes of Departments recommended by the Executive Committee and Central Committee will be considered. Pyin Oo Lwin, known as city of flowers is a hill station located in the central region of the country having a mild climate especially in the summer (approximately 24-29 degree Celsius). Most of the plain regions of the country are very hot during the summer (March, April and May). Pyin Oo Lwin is about two hours drive from Mandalay, one of the ancient capital cities of Myanmar. |

 Rev. Khoi Lam Thang, a minister of the Leipi Baptist Church, Kalay Valley Baptist Association, who has been working as translation officer at the Bible Society of Myanmar over 5 years was installed to the General Secretary post of the Organization in Myanmar. The installation service was solemnized at the Lutheran Bethlehem Church, 181-183 Theinbyu Street, Yangon on 22nd December 2009. He is a well trained linguistic expert apart from his theological education background of having earned the BTh(Senate of Serampore Degree) and BD from the Myanmar Institute of Theology, Insein Myanmar. He was elected to be the General Secretary by the General Meeting of the Bible Society of Myanmar held on 6 March 2009 at the Cushin Hall of the Myanmar Baptist Convention,143 Minye Kyaw Swa Street, Yangon, but he is actually happened to take the position only in February 2010.
The event of the installation included a laying on of hands by 9 member denominational Church leaders while Rev. Dr. Tha Din pronounced words of dedication. |

Norwegian theologian and pastor Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, 48, was elected 7th general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Thursday 27 August during its Central Committee meeting. Tveit will be the youngest general secretary since Willem A. Visser 't Hooft who had led the WCC while it was in process of formation and following its founding assembly 61 years ago.
Since 2002, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has been the general secretary of the Church of Norway Council on Ecumenical and International Relations. He was previously secretary for the Church of Norway Doctrinal Commission, 1999-2000, and Church-State Relations, 2001-02. He is an ordained pastor in the Church of Norway and has also served as a parish priest in Haram, Møre Diocese, 1988-91 and an army chaplain during his compulsory year of national service in 1987-88. Tveit is a member of the WCC Faith and Order Plenary Commission, co-chair of the WCC Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum core group, a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the Christian Council of Norway, moderator of the Church of Norway - Islamic Council of Norway contact group and the same for the Jewish Congregation contact group. He is also a member of the Inter-Faith Council of Norway and a member of the board of trustees of Norwegian Church Aid.
